How do I identify a carbide drill bit?
The first thing to do is a weight test. Carbide drills are always much heavier than steel. The next test is a magnet test. Steel is very attracted to the magnet and is attracted to it right away, carbide drill bits on the other hand, is only slightly magnetic and has a slight pull to it. If you see rust, it’s not carbide. Carbide drills do NOT rust.
Can extra length drill bits drill through wood?
Yes, they are used to drill deep holes in metal, wood and plastic. They can be used for drilling in places where shorter drill bits cannot be reached.
